MIAMI, FLORIDA — The University of South Carolina Beaufort soccer team faced Barry University on Sunday morning, as the Buccaneers used a strong first half to open a 3-0 lead over the Sand Sharks before completing the 3-0 victory over USCB.
"It's a disappointing way to end the road trip, but we have to take what we did in the second half and apply it to the week ahead," stated head coach Gary Boughton.
The Sand Sharks fall to 1-1 on the season, while Barry improves to 2-0.
Barry led in shots on goal for the game, 4-3, with Sophia Willis, Kitty Crovo, and Erin Barrett each recording one. Addison Rollison started in goal and made one save in the first half, while Graysen Asher played the second 45 minutes.
Looking to strike early, USCB created a scoring opportunity in the opening minutes as a shot forced an early save from the Barry goalkeeper. A second chance off a free kick then hit the crossbar as the game remained scoreless.
The Buccaneers stole the momentum at the 6:11 mark with the first goal of the game, finding the bottom-left corner of the net to take a 1-0 lead over the Sand Sharks.
Barry extended its lead seven minutes later in the 13th minute, capitalizing on a corner-kick opportunity for its second goal of the half.
The home team struck once more before halftime after a Sand Shark yellow card led to a penalty kick for the Buccaneers, extending their lead to 3-0 over USCB.
The score remained 3-0 heading into halftime.
In the second half, the teams were even in shots, 4-4, while the Sand Sharks held a 2-1 advantage in shots on goal.
At the 55-minute mark, Kitty Crovo put a shot on target, but the attempt was saved by the Buccaneer goalkeeper.
Barry closed out the 3-0 victory over the Sand Sharks.
USCB returns to action on Wednesday, September 2, against Chowan before hosting its home opener on Saturday, September 5, at 11 a.m. against West Alabama.
