BRUNSWICK, Ga. — The University of South Carolina Beaufort men's golf team rebounded from a rough opening day to finish strong Tuesday at Sea Island Golf Club's Retreat Course, moving up three spots to finish in a tie for second in the 13-team Coastal Georgia Men's Invitational.
The Sand Sharks shaved 22 shots off their first-round score, as seniors Mark Phillips and Luke McClellan led the way with rounds of 3-under-par 69. Sophomore Coley Davis posted a 74, senior Tyler Jacobs shot 78 and junior Dylan Mixon carded an 88 to round out the scoring for USCB.
Phillips finished the 36-hole event at 2-under-par, good for second place.
Darton College ran away with the team title, shooting 581for a 21-shot win.
The Sand Sharks' two-day total of 602 put them in a three-way tie for second with host and first-round leader College of Coastal Georgia and Shorter (Ga.).
"It was a good finish," coach Chris Cuneo said. "Psychologically, if you move up three spots, that definitely helps. That's the kind of golf we expect to play."
The Sand Sharks will be back in action Friday, hosting NCAA Division I Dayton for a dual match at Chechessee Creek Club.
