DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Senior Luke McClellan finished with a round of 1-under-par 71 to finish in second place and lead the University of South Carolina Beaufort men's golf team to a third-place showing at the Embry-Riddle Bash at the Beach on Sunday at LPGA International.
McClellan shot 5-under for the 54-hole tournament to finish three shots behind SCAD Savannah's Billy Nisbet and help the Sand Sharks move up one spot on the tournament's final day. McClellan and Nisbet were tied for the lead entering the final round, but Nisbet carded a 4-under 68 on Sunday.
USCB posted a team score of 293 on Sunday to finish the two-day event at 884. Johnson & Wales won the team title at 876, one shot ahead of Webber International.
Mark Phillips (72-75-79—226), Brian Langley (78-76-72—226) and Travis Cashion (74-76-76—226) all tied for 25th, and Jack Bingham (80-80-74—234) rounded out the Sand Sharks' lineup in a tie for 47th.
The Sand Sharks are off for two weeks before heading to Orlando, Fla., for the Sun Conference Championship from April 29-May 1 at Southern Hills Plantation. USCB is the defending Sun Conference champion.
