BLUFFTON, S.C. - Five USCB athletic teams will be in action this week, which is highlighted by the baseball team hosting the NAIA Tournament Runner-Ups, No. 2 St. Thomas, for a three-game series at Richard Gray Stadium.
Men's Golf - Championsgate Invitational (Feb. 17-18)
USCB men's golf will play its third tournament in the last seven days, as the Sand Sharks will compete in the two-day Championsgate Invitational in Championsgate, Fla. The meet is hosted by Dalton State and commences on Monday, Feb. 17.
Headlining last week was Dawson Peters winning two events - Coastal Georgia Winter Invitational and the Dual Match with SCAD. The junior was the sole winner at the Coastal Georgia Winter Invitational, as he finished the outing with an impressive 11-under 133 tournament (66-67). The 5-under 66 was his best round in a USCB uniform. He then followed that performance with a three-way tie for first in the dual match with SCAD. He tied Marc Sweeney and Will Canipe at 1-under 71 at the one-day outing.
As a team, USCB finished in third place out of 16 teams at the Coastal Georgia event and concluded the week by upending the Bees by 16 strokes.
Men's and Women's Track and Field - Embry-Riddle First Chance Meet (Feb. 22)
The USCB men's and women's track and field teams will send a slew of athletes to compete at one of the bigger meets of the indoor season. The one-day meet is hosted by Embry-Riddle and is held at the ERAU Track and Field Complex in Daytona, Fla.
In the last meet for USCB (Queens Multis), the Sand Sharks sent a trio of athletes to compete at the NCAA Division II meet - Jaslyn Joseph, Courtney Sherry and Ja'Milya Poole. The three Sand sharks competed in the pentathlon. Poole had the best overall finish for USCB, as she finished with 2,746 overall points en route to her 16th-place finish. Joseph slotted in 20th place with 2,602 place, and Sherry finished 26th place with 1,799 points.
Baseball - Three-Game Series Versus No. 2 St. Thomas (Feb. 21-22)
USCB enters the week at 3-6 overall and 1-2 in Sun Conference games. USCB went 2-3 last week, as it claimed wins over Florida Memorial and Columbia International. The Sand Sharks will now turn their attention to the 2019 NAIA Runner-Ups, St. Thomas.
St. Thomas will travel to the Lowcountry with an 8-2 overall record and a 2-0 Sun Conference mark. The Bobcats are 7-2 in their last nine games with wins over Middle Georgia State, Keiser, Florida National and Nova Southeastern.
STU's offense is led by a trio of players - Gus Guerra, Andrew Fernandez and Jack Khawly. All three Bobcats have already totaled 10 or more hits this season. Khawly is tied for the team-lead with 11 hits. Two of his 11 hits have been doubles, as he is also tied for the team-lead with seven RBIs. Fernandez is a power threat for STU, as he has four doubles and a home run this season. Guerra has been a consistent force, as he has one double, one triple, one home run, four RBIs and six runs scored.
On the bump, Ernesto Pino, Christopher Coipel and Merfy Andrew have been key to the starting rotation. Pino has been lights out this year, as he has started two games and is 2-0 on the year. He has pitched 12 innings, allowed two hits, one run, two walks and struck out 19. Perez Nichols is a key reliever for the nationally-ranked team, as he has pitched in four games this year. He has eight strikeouts in five innings of work. Jason Grana and Felipe Soto are also relievers to keep an eye on this weekend.

Softball - Reinhardt Tournament (Feb. 21-23, six games)
USCB softball will take a six-day break from the diamond, as the Sand Sharks return home after their first road trip of season. The Sand Sharks split at Middle Georgia State, as it was a pitching duel in both contests. Earlier last week, the Sand Sharks swept a doubleheader over NCAA Division II Savannah State at home, 4-3 and 11-2.
At the Reinhardt Tournament, USCB will play four different teams in Waleska, Ga. - Freed-Hardeman, Reinhardt, Midway and Campbellsville. No. 13 Campbellsville joins No. 20 USCB as the only ranked teams in the tournament, but Reinhardt received votes in the preseason poll - five votes. Maria Molloseau has been a force in the circle for the Sand Sharks, as the junior pitched in three of the four games last week. On the year, she totes a 4-1 overall record and has started in five games. She has twirled 33.2 innings, allowed five earned runs, scattered 22 hits, struck out a team-best 23 batters and limited batters to a .177 batting average. Rachel Catt has also been strong, as the senior has appeared in five games in 2020. She has pitched 16 frames and has allowed seven earned runs to go along with her undefeated record (2-0).
Offensively, USCB is still being led by freshman Jodi Hatcher and senior Emily Martin. Hatcher has a team-best .391 batting average, as she has played in nine of the 10 games this year. Hatcher has nine total hits to go along with her one double, four RBIs and three walks. Martin has started all 10 games and sports a .367 clip. She has a team-leading 11 hits and six doubles.
