DAYTONA BEACH, FLORIDA – The University of South Carolina Beaufort women's track & field team opened the two-day Peach Belt Conference Championship meet on Friday at the ERAU Track & Field Complex in Daytona Beach, Florida. The Sand Sharks sit in eighth place overall after a handful of events on the opening day.
In the 100m preliminary results, Melanie Simmons led the way for the Sand Sharks with a time of 12.51, finishing 11th overall.
In the 100m hurdles preliminaries, the Sand Sharks have two athletes advancing to the final round after qualifying. Selah Moore finished fourth in the prelims, followed by Priscilla Rodriguez in sixth.
In the 200m, Simmons again led the team, finishing 13th overall with a time of 25.74.
Maggie Olsen qualified for the 400m final with a preliminary time of 57.49. She also qualified in the 400m hurdles, one of three Sand Sharks to advance. Hannah Burnside finished sixth, followed by Rodriguez in eighth, as all three secured spots in Saturday's final.
Victoria Colon paced the Sand Sharks in the field events with a second-place finish in the hammer throw, recording a mark of 47.69m.
Chloe Campbell cleared 1.40m in the high jump to finish 11th overall.
In the long jump, Victoria Ingram posted a mark of 5.17m, placing 12th overall.
Sydney Lee scored for the Sand Sharks with an eighth-place finish in the pole vault, recording a mark of 2.85m.
Grace Wolfe leads the heptathlon after day one, with the event set to conclude on day two. Teammate De'Andra Brown currently sits in second place.
