Men’s Golf in Second Place; Thomas in Second at Skyhawk Invitational

PINE MOUNTAIN, Ga. -  The USCB men's golf team is only two strokes off from the team leader, as the Sand Sharks are currently in second place on Monday at the Skyhawk Invitational at Callaway Gardens.

Also, Jacob Thomas is currently in second place, while Dawson Peters is tied for fourth after 36 holes of play.

Day One Highlights

USCB is currently in second place after 36 holes of action on the opening day. USCB opened the day with a 12-over 300 but shaved off six strokes in the second round for a 6-over 294. Overall the Sand Sharks are two strokes back of the team leader, Point, and hold a three-stroke advantage on Lindsey Wilson.

Thomas is in sole possession of second place on the individual leaderboard at 2-over 146. He opened the day with a 2-over 74 but improved by two strokes in the second round to ink an even-par 72. The sophomore is one stroke ahead of Callum Blinkhorn of Linsey Wilson but five strokes behind the individual leader - Ruan Pretorius of Point.

Peters is also in the top 5 at tied for fourth. He is currently tied with one other golfer - Ryan van der Klis of Point - at 4-over 148. Peters opened the day with a stellar 1-under 71, as he was one of just four golfers to shoot below par on Monday. With Peters' 1-under 71 round, he concluded his stretch of 74-or-better rounds at 13. 

Senior Marc Sweeney made big improvements from the first to second round, as he jumped 25 spots on the individual leaderboard. The Canada native shot an 8-over 80 in the first round, but he shaved off nine strokes to join Peters as one of the four golfers to shoot below par on Monday - 1-under 71.

Will Canipe is tied for 22nd place at 10-over 154, and Tyler Fox is tied for 38. Fox improved by 10 strokes from the first to second round, while Canipe headlined his day with a 3-over 75 first-round score.
