INNISBROOK, Fla. - After the first day of the Invite at Innisbrook, senior Tyler Fox and junior Jacob Thomas are in a tie for 10th on the individual leaderboard, while the USCB men's golf team is fifth place following 36 holes on Monday at the Copperhead Course.
Day One Highlights
Fox was red hot in the first round of the season-opening event for the Sand Sharks. The senior from Bluffton, S.C. was consistent in the first round, as he carded 13 pars to go along with two birdies. He finished the first round with a team-best 2-over 73. Fox ended the 36-hole day with a 4-over 75, as he sits in a four-way tie for 10th.
Thomas struggled in the first round, as the junior posted seven bogeys or worse. However, the All-American recovered with a team-best three birdies in the opening round. He finished the first round with a 5-over 76. He found his groove in the second 18-hole round, as he collected four birdies and 10 pars en route to a 1-over 72.
Dawson Peters is currently in a tie for 15th with four other golfers. He inked 13 pars in the first round on his way to a 5-over 76 outing, but he shaved off two strokes in the second round with a 3-over 74. In that second round, the Urbandale, Iowa native etched two birdies and 12 pars in the 18-hole round.
Freshmen Tristin Galant and Skyler Sicoli rounded out the scores for the Sand Sharks on Monday. Galant is tied for 31st with a 15-over 157 (80-77), and Sicoli is tied for 41st at 19-over 161 (76-85).Â
As a team, USCB is in fifth place after 36 holes of play on Monday. The Sand Sharks sit at 31-over 499 (301-298) and hold a one-stroke advantage on Sun Conference foe Coastal Georgia.Â
Host school Dalton State sits atop of the team standings at 17-over 585 (300-285), while Wayland Baptist is just one stroke back of the Roadrunners.Â
On the individual leaderboard, Trevor Bassett of Dalton State holds a four-stroke lead at 2-under 140 (72-68). There is a three-way tie for second, as the trio sits at 2-over 144.Â
What's Next?
USCB will look to move up the team leaderboard, as it will tee off the final round on Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. The Sand Sharks will start on hole five at the Copperhead Course.
