GULF SHORES, Ala. - Three Sand Sharks - Oriana Hernandez, Kadari Mitchell and Iyana McKeever - opened the NAIA Nationals on Wednesday for USCB men's and women's track and field, as they competed in three events at the Mickey Miller Blackwell Stadium Complex.Â
Day One Highlights
Hernandez kicked off the postseason meet for USCB, as the rookie sprinter competed in the women's 400m hurdles. She just missed the qualifying time, as she finished in 10th place with a 1:04.00. The mark was her second-fastest time this year and just 0.2 seconds from matching a career-best.Â
Mitchell rounded out the sprint races for the Sand Sharks on the opening day, as he competed in the men's 200m. Out of 25 runners, the junior from Savannah, Ga. finished 17th with a mark of 21.72. That time was just 0.12 seconds from his career-best that he set at this year's Sun Conference Outdoor Championship.Â
In the last event of the day for the Sand Sharks, McKeever represented USCB in the women's long jump. She finished 20th with a distance of 5.36m.Â
