SPARTANBURG, S.C. - In one of the toughest fields during the fall slate, the USCB women's golf team opened play at the DI Terrier Intercollegiate on Monday at the Carolina Country Club.
Day One Highlights
The field is very strong, as there are 17 teams at the Terrier Intercollegiate. Of the other 16 teams, USCB is the only team that is not a NCAA Division I member. Wofford, a Southern Conference member, is hosting the two-day meeting in the Upstate.
Ashleigh Mead led the Sand Sharks on Monday, as she is 15-over 159. She opened the day shooting 9-over 81 followed by shaving off three strokes to post a 5-over 77. The junior is currently tied for 50th.
Five spots back is Cassie Tasney, as the sophomore is 18-over 162. Tasney lowered her first to second round score by eight strokes, as she went 13-over 85 in the first followed by a 5-over 77.
Alejandra Rodgriguez also had a huge improvement from the first to second round, as she shaved off 12 strokes. She is currently 30-over 174.
Kirsta Thomson and Jessica Hoeft also competed for the Sand Sharks. They sit 86th and 88th, respectively.
As a team, USCB is 107-over 683.
South Dakota leads the field after 36 holes at 26-over 602. Samford is four strokes behind at 30-over 606, and North Alabama rounds out the top-3 at 33-over 609.
Jacqueline Klemm of North Alabama is the lone golfer that is under-par at 1-under 143. Right behind her is Lucie Charbonnier of Texas A&M Corpus Christi at even-par 144.
What's Next?
The third and final round will be a staggered start. USCB will begin on hole 10 at 9:45 a.m. and will be paired with The Citadel and individuals.
