CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. - The Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) unveiled its 2021-22 All-American Scholar Team, and rising junior Ashleigh Mead was selected as one of 1,485 golfers nation-wide (NCAA DI, DII, DIII, NAIA and JUCO) as an All-American Scholar.
This is one of Mead's many accolades during the 2021-22 season. Highlighting her campaigning was being named to two All-American teams - the NAIA and WGCA. She also finished eighth at the NAIA National Championship as well as tied for sixth at the Sun Conference Championship. To go along with those marks and honors, she was also tabbed All-Sun Conference as well as Sun Conference All-Academic.
On the links, Mead had numerous highlights this past season. One of her biggest came at USCB's home event - the Monument Golf Oldfield Intercollegiate. Mead broke three school records at the home event - lowest 18-hole score (67), lowest 36-hole score (141) and lowest 54-hole score (216). Her 5-under 67, second-round performance led her to her first individual title in her two-year career.
Also highlighting her year was finishing eighth at the NAIA National Championship. Mead shot 3-over 75 to open the outing, but she shot sub-par in the second and third rounds to collect a 2-under 214, 54-hole score (a new school 54-hole record). At the tournament, Mead shot under par on both par 4 (2-under) and par 5 holes (1-under). Overall, she penciled 38 pars, eight birdies and an eagle.
Looking back at her sophomore season, Mead led the Sand Sharks in scoring average (76.72). She shot under par in four rounds this year and finished inside the top-10 in five tournaments.
