SAVANNAH, Ga. - After scoring two goals in the season opener Sunday, senior midfielder Mari Kalvatn continued her strong start to the 2022 season by notching her third goal en route to the Sand Sharks 1-0 victory over Converse College Tuesday afternoon at Memorial Stadium.

How It Happened
Reigning Peach Belt Goalkeeper of the Week, Worrell collected two saves and extended her scoreless streak to 180 minutes after recording her second shutout this week.
In the first half, USCB had one prime scoring chance that came in the 15th minute. Synne Bye-Andersen connected with Kristin Beltestad, who then sent a cross to the back post. The ball found a wide open Kalvatn, but she mishit the shot and sailed high of frame.
With minutes remaining in the first half, Converse put a scare into the Sand Sharks in the 41st minute. After a USCB defensive miscue, a Valkyrie regained possession inside the penalty box and went one-on-one with Worrell. The Converse player connected strong with the ball, but the Maryland native redirected the shot out of harm's way to keep the game level.
Just under 20 minutes into the second half (64th minute), USCB eventually broke the scoreless tie thanks to Kalvatn and Page. Page, working on the left side of the field, fed a pass to Kalvatn in the middle of the Converse half. Kalvatn split the centrebacks for Converse and ripped a shot into the top-right corner of the net to take the 1-0 lead.
One final chance came in the dying minutes when Ine Aas nearly netted her first career goal. Kalvatn took a corner from the left side, and Aas put a header on the ball at the back post. Her attempt went just right of the post, which kept the game at 1-0.
The Sand Shark's move to 2-0 on the season for the first time since the 2019 campaign when it started the year 4-0.
