NEWBERRY, S.C. - Despite outhitting the Wolves in game one, the USCB softball team fell to tough Newberry College, 10-6 and 9-1, in a non-conference, doubleheader matchup on Tuesday at Smith Road Complex.

Caylee Busbee - one inning, no runs, no hits, no walks
HOW GAME ONE HAPPENED
The first game of the doubleheader featured a ton of offense. In fact, both teams combed for 16 runs and 20 hits. A lot of that offense came in the first four innings with USCB scoring four total runs in the second and third innings, while Newberry tallied 10 in the four-inning stretch.
Walker, Whitlock and Turner had the run-scoring hits for USCB in the first three innings, but Newberry plated eight unanswered runs in the third and fourth innings to take a 10-4 lead after four complete.
The fifth inning was the first frame neither team scored runs, even though both had chances.
Despite being down six, USCB played hard until the end by plating single runs in the sixth and seventh innings. Miller cracked a RBI single in the sixth, while Freeman smoked a leadoff homer in the seventh.
Despite the late effort, the Sand Sharks fell by four, 10-6.

HOW GAME TWO HAPPENED
The Sand Sharks again were able to get out hot when Freeman connected with a run-scoring single in the first.
However, the Wolves' offense went to work scoring five runs in the first and second innings.
USCB's offense was shutdown from the second inning-on, while Newberry tacked on four more insurance runs in the final two innings to claim the run-rule win, 9-1.

The Sand Sharks will welcome Augusta to Hardeeville, as it will be the first-ever matchup between the two clubs. The three-game, Peach Belt Conference slate begins Friday, March 24 at 5 p.m.
