GREENWOOD, S.C. - Despite a late three-run home run from Ashlyn Alte, the USCB softball team dropped a road doubleheader to Lander, 12-4 and 9-0, on Saturday afternoon at Doug Spears Field.

Alte - 1-for-3, three-run homer
Devon Weller - 1-for-3, double, one RBI

HOW GAME ONE HAPPENED
The Sand Shark offense had chances to score runs in the first four innings but failed to do so. In fact, three of those innings the Sand Sharks were able to put at least one runner on base.
Lander took advantage of the woes with 10 runs in the first four frames.
With run-rule nearing, Alte didn't let that happen in the fifth when she connected with a two-out, three-run homer to make it 10-3.
After Lander's first 1-2-3 inning in the fifth, Freeman and Weller exchanged doubles to make it a six-run game in the sixth. However, the Bearcats enforced the run-run with a two-run sixth to seal the 12-4 victory.
INSIDE THE GAME TWO BOX SCORE
Emily Williams - four innings, five earned runs, four strikeouts
Daryn Miller, Alte, Alyssa Smith - one walk each
HOW GAME TWO HAPPENED
The second game of the doubleheader was dominated by Lander's Bailey Pattison, as she tossed a no-hitter in the circle. She pitched five innings with 65 pitches and induced seven flyouts and five groundouts. USCB was only able to muster three walks against the 6-1 pitcher.
The Bearcats scored two runs in the first followed by a solo run in the third. The LU offense erupted in the fourth with six runs to claim the run-rule win, 9-0.
