AMERICUS, Ga. - To conclude a three-game series with Georgia Southwestern, the USCB softball team had a late surge behind the bat of Jaci Coleman, but it wasn't enough, as the Sand Sharks fell to the Canes, 8-2, at the Lady Canes Field.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Coleman - 1-for-3, double, two RBIs
Addie Reynolds - 1-for-3, double
Caylee Busbee - three innings, three hits, two earned runs, one strikeout
HOW IT HAPPENED
Busbee earned her first start in the circle for USCB, and she ran into some issues in the first three innings. However, the rookie Sand Shark worked out of the jams by combining for six Hurricanes left on base without any scoring.
The scoreless tie was broken though in the fourth when GSW used four hits and an error to take a 5-0 lead.
After forcing Georgia Southwestern to a 1-2-3 inning in the fifth, USCB's offense was able to break onto the scoreboard in the sixth with a clutch, two-out double from Coleman. She plated Tamiyah Whitlock and Harlee Walker, as USCB took advance of a hit by pitch and an error.
GSW quickly pushed the lead to six, 8-2, in the bottom of the sixth in the three-run inning.
Reynolds tried to spark a rally with a leadoff double in the seventh, but the next three Sand Sharks went down in order in the 8-2 defeat.
