GREENWOOD — USCB women's golf team sits in ninth place at +9 on the leaderboard after the first two rounds of the Meredith Insurance Fall Kickoff hosted by Anderson University Monday.
Senior Ashleigh Mead and sophomore McLain Neal finished Monday's action tied for 25th after shooting a two-round total of 153.
The rest of Beaufort's field, Jessica Edwards, Katharina Tieves finished inside the top 60 and Kirsta Thomson ended the day tied for 77th.
"Solid showing on our first 36 holes of the year," said coach Cory Cottrell. "We had some ups and downs throughout the course, and there is a ton for us to continue to clean up to help us move up the leaderboard."
Mead started her senior campaign off with a +6 (78) first round, but then shot a +3 (75) in round two, picking up birdies on holes two, seven and 13.
Neal carded a solid five-over 77 in her first round as a Sand Shark and followed that up with a +4 round two to finish +9 heading into tomorrow's final round.
Edwards and Tieves both posted respectable scores in the first round going six and seven over. The duo sits two strokes a part on the leaderboard and each had five birdies on the day.
Thomson finished the first round +17 but found her stride in the second, taking six shots off her total to finish round two at +11.
"I'm looking forward to continuing to work with this group and to continue to develop over the course of the year."
The Sand Sharks are scheduled to tee off for round three at 8:30 a.m.
