Martello, Edwards podium in inaugural PBC Championships

GAINESVILLE -- Michael Martello podiumed twice, taking the gold in the weight throw and the bronze in shot put and Cameron Edwards earned the silver in the long jump as USCB's indoor track and field team finished in fifth in both the men's and women's inaugural Peach Belt Indoor Track and Field Championship on Monday.

Martello posted a 14.96m score on his second throw after fouling on his first and his mark overtook Embry-Riddle's Chance Tressler's 14.80m. The junior out of Beaufort posted a distance of 14.13m in the shot put to take third. Edwards competed in the long, high, triple jump, scoring for the Sand Sharks in both the long and triple jump. His 6.72m long jump was two hundredths of a point off the leader.

Sophia Stalford placed fourth in the women's weight throw finishing with a distance of 10.60m helping USCB earn six points while De'Andra Brown picked up two points for Beaufort in the triple jump with a distance of 10.44.

The Sand Sharks begin the outdoor portion of their schedule at the Savannah State Relays on March 2.
