Neal's four-straight birdies, 2-under final round propels USCB into second at Oldfield

BLUFFTON -- McLain Neal went on a run where she birdied four straight holes and then capped her stellar week with a birdie on the par-5 18th giving USCB women's golf a one stroke advantage over Glenville State to finish second overall with a score of +65 for the week at the Oldfield Intercollegiate.

The sophomore out of Olathe, Kansas was two-over through 10, but then she rattled off birdies on holes 11-14. On the par-4 12th her tee shot ended up in the bunker, but she easily got out of the sand putting her second shot within four feet of the hole and sunk the putt. She followed up with another two birdies on 13 and 14 and she nearly recorded five straight on the 15th, but her put rimmed out of the cup. On the final hole she reached the green in regulation and sunk a 10-foot putt to finish off her stellar round.

Ashleigh Mead started the day off tied for fifth and started her round off strong shooting one-under through seven. A double-bogey on eight and bogey on nine put her +2 at the turn. She moved back to even after back-to-back birdies on 11 and 12 and finished three-over through the final six holes.

Jessica Edwards finished with a 6-over round and Jennifer Larsson carded an 11-over final round.

The Sand Sharks are back on the links on March 15 on Hilton Head for the Lowcountry Intercollegiate hosted by Wofford.
