MORGANTON -- The USCB women's golf team held their own against a tough field at the Mimosa Invitational, hosted by Appalachian State, as the only NCAA Division II team in the 10-team field. After two rounds of play, which included a weather delay midway through the second round, the Sand Sharks showed resilience on the course at Mimosa Hills Golf Club.
Senior Jessica Edwards led the way for USCB, finishing with a 14-over-par total, good for 18th place overall. Edwards found her rhythm on the front nine, stringing together five consecutive pars before picking up her lone birdie of the day on the par-5 14th hole. She wrapped up the second round with a score of 80, keeping the Sand Sharks competitive against their Division I opponents.
McLain Neal fought through an up-and-down first round, starting with a tough stretch that saw her at 6-over through the first seven holes. She steadied herself and made a strong push with back-to-back birdies on holes 12 and 13. Neal closed the second round at 10-over, showing her ability to recover and grind through challenging conditions.
Florence Phan turned in an 11-over score in round one and followed with an 85 in round two, while Camila Giordani finished with a 28-over total after two rounds. Manon Tortelier rounded out the scoring for USCB with a 33-over finish.
