BLUFFTON, SOUTH CAROLINA – The University of South Carolina Beaufort women's track & field team is two indoor meets into the season following its most recent competition at the Gamecock Opener, hosted by the University of South Carolina. This week, Patton Casto was honored for her strong start to the season, earning Peach Belt Conference Field Athlete of the Week honors.

Casto has had an excellent beginning to her season, breaking the school record in the shot put at the first meet before surpassing her own record again in the second meet.

At the Gamecock Opener, Casto competed in two events: the shot put and the weight throw. She recorded new season bests in both events that day. 

In the weight throw, Casto finished 15th with a mark of 9.84 meters, improving on her previous throw of 8.69 meters from the first meet.

In the shot put, Casto posted her best mark of 11.02 meters, surpassing her previous mark of 10.93 meters from meet one to set a new USCB school record in the women's shot put. She placed eighth overall in the event.

The Sand Sharks return to action this upcoming weekend at the Radd Sports College Invite in Gainesville, Florida.
