LAKELAND, FLORIDA – The University of South Carolina Beaufort men's golf team opened the 2026 spring season Monday with rounds one and two of the three-round Matlock Classic, hosted by Florida Southern at Lone Palm Golf Club.

The Sand Sharks sit 13th overall after the first day with a two-round total of 598 (+22), posting scores of 302 and 296. West Florida leads the tournament, followed by host Florida Southern in second. Florida Southern's Donte Groppuso holds the individual lead through two rounds.

Octavio Laurent led the Sand Sharks on day one, posting a two-round total of 148. He turned in his best round of the day in round two with an even-par 72 and recorded five birdies over the two rounds. Laurent also tied Dylan Allen for the team lead with 23 pars.

Dylan Allen is tied for 44th overall with a total score of 150 highlighted by his second round he carded the lowest round for the Sand Sharks on day one with a second-round 71 (-1). Allen recorded five birdies over the opening two rounds and matched Laurent with a team-high 23 pars.

Christofer Hammar is tied for 51st after two rounds with a total score of 151. His best round came in the opening round with a 73 (+1). Hammar recorded four birdies on the day and totaled 21 pars across both rounds.

Nikolai Holme is tied for 55th overall with a two-round total of 152, with a best round of 74 (+2). Holme led the Sand Sharks with nine birdies on day one, which is tied for 10th in the tournament, and recorded 12 pars.

Alejandro Rivas posted a two-round total of 154 and is tied for 61st overall. His best round came in round two with a 75 (+3). Rivas recorded five birdies and 19 pars over the two rounds.
