USCB wins PBC Connecting Communities Award for Second Consecutive Year

BLUFFTON, SOUTH CAROLINA — The University of South Carolina Beaufort was awarded the Peach Belt Conference Connecting Communities Award this week at the annual league dinner in Hilton Head. This is the second consecutive year USCB has taken home the honor.

"We are honored to be recognized by the Peach Belt Conference for our commitment to community engagement, and we are especially proud of our partnership with Real Champions" stated Genia Montford. "This relationship is incredibly meaningful to USCB Athletics—it not only enriches the experience of our student-athletes by connecting them to a purpose greater than competition, but it also allows us to make a lasting, positive impact in the lives of the children and families served by Real Champions. Together, we are building connections that embody what it means to be the Lowcountry's NCAA Team."

The award is presented annually to the PBC member institution that embraces the NCAA Division II core value of community engagement by bringing the institution and local community together.

This year, USCB was recognized for the leadership and impact it made throughout the year through various community outreach events & activities. During the 2025-26 academic year, Sand Shark Athletics recorded a total of 1,915 hours of community service across the sports programs and Student Athlete Advisory Committee.

Throughout the year, USCB Athletics partnered with The Real Champions organization, which serves at-risk youth and their families. USCB Athletics hosted a variety of activities, including academic assistance, in-person events at games and practices, and community holiday and outreach events.

These efforts were led by Alison Owen, Assistant Director of Athletics for Student-Athlete Welfare & Community Engagement. Throughout the year, there were six in-person events, three academic events, and three community outreach events in addition to more community service events by the athletes.
