BLUFFTON, S.C. — The University of South Carolina Beaufort women's soccer team was unable to keep up with Sun Conference power Northwood, falling 11-0 on Friday at Fin Land Field.
Taryn Pardoe scored five goals - matching her season total to date - and Helen Lynskey added her 19th and 20th goals for the Seahawks (9-3, 5-0), who maintained their top spot in the Sun Conference South Division standings.
The Sand Sharks (6-7, 1-3) came out strong and challenged the Seahawks early, but Northwood's speed and skill on the front line eventually won out. Pardoe scored two of her five goals in the first half, helping the Seahawks to a 4-0 halftime lead, and she added three more within the first 10 minutes of the second half.
USCB was only able to manage two shots on goal against Matilda Ojaniemi, who recorded her fourth consecutive shutout. Ojaniemi has not allowed a goal since Sept. 21 against Embry-Riddle and has given up just one goal in her past six games.
"We lost to a better team tonight," USCB coach Ed Heberling said. "We just have to realize that and not let it carry over into our next game. We have to come back strong after a loss like we have several times this year."
The Sand Sharks will try to bounce back Sunday, when they play their final home game of the regular season at 1 p.m. against Johnson & Wales. USCB will have a chance to get back to .500 — the Sand Sharks have won their past three games in that situation.
Sunday's game will mark Senior Day for USCB, which will honor four seniors — Soledad Bucaram, Becca Kent, Blair Kent and Kathleen Kent.
