ABOUT MILLIGAN
The Buffaloes were picked to finish fourth in the Appalachian Athletic Conference after going 10-7-1 a year ago. Coach Lisa Buckley compiled a 44-31-1 record over her first five seasons at Milligan and guided the Buffs to a 1-1 tie with Southern Wesleyan (S.C.) in their season opener Tuesday. Teagan Wood scored the team's lone goal in the opener and was the squad's leader in goals (6), assists (3) and points (15) a year ago.
SAND SHARK BITES
• With two goals and five points apiece through the first two games, junior midfielder Alexa Muffley and freshman forward Brittany Lorentz already are halfway to matching the USCB single-season records in both categories. Jessica Tooley holds the school mark for points (10 in 2012) and Olivia Dizon, Steph Moldenhauer and Maddie Zak each scored four goals in 2012.
• Muffley's five points against West Virginia Tech tied a single-game school record set by Erin Lynn last season against Florida Christian.Â
• The Sand Sharks and junior goalkeeper Chelsie Mummert enter Friday's game with a 148-minute scoreless streak dating to the 52nd minute of the Johnson & Wales game. Mummert's career-best streak — and the school record — was a 280-minute stretch without a goal last season.Â
• USCB has never faced an opponent from the state of Tennessee and does not have any players from the Volunteer State on this year's roster. However, three members of the 2011 and 2012 squad's — triplets Blair, Becca and Kathleen Kent — hailed from Hixson, Tenn., and began their careers at Tennessee Wesleyan College before transferring to USCB.
