USCB Sports Information Places Third in National ‘Feature Video’ Contest, Finishes Top 10 in Three Categories

BLUFFTON, S.C. - At the annual NAIA-SIDA meetings, the USCB sports information department was awarded a third-place finish in the 'Feature Video' category, as the department collected a total of three top-10 finishes in the national competition.

Third-Place Finish - Digital Media Production Contest - Feature Video

USCB baseball junior, DJ Lawler, recorded and edited this film project from start to finish, as he won the lone third-place honor for USCB. He began working with the USCB sports information department at the beginning of the 2019-20 season and made several feature videos that were nominated.

At the beginning of the 2019-20 season, USCB athletics generated a mantra of #RisingTide.

What does that mean? Well, it has a different meaning in the eyes of every Sand Shark student-athlete, coach, staff member and fan.

Check out what #RisingTide means to athletic director Quin Monahan, cross country/track & field head coach Bernard Gaither and softball graduate Taylor Boykin.

In this exciting walk-off victory, USCB baseball was tied 1-1 with Toccoa Falls in the first game of a doubleheader at Richard Gray Stadium.

After tying the game in the bottom of the sixth, Kyran Russ connected with the game-winning hit in the seventh to score Keith Olmo to lift the Sand Sharks to victory. Take a listen to the call from the Voice of USCB Athletics, Jody Vermilyea.

Tenth-Place Finish - Digital Media Production Contest - Call of the Year

Play-By-Play - Jody Vermilyea, Voice of USCB Athletics
Color Commentator - Larry Kimball, Color commentator and former USCB track and field/cross country head coach
Director of Sand Shark Gameday Network - Trey Ramsey, student worker for USCB Sports Information Department

In the wackiest victory of the 2020 season, if not ever for USCB softball, the Sand Sharks pulled off a game-ending double play in the first game of a doubleheader versus St. Andrews.

The Knights were mounting a comeback in the seventh inning. With one out in the frame, SAU tried to tie the game with one out on a groundout, but the plan backfired, as USCB turned a crazy double play to seal the one-run win, 4-3. Check out the play and the award-winning call from the Voice of USCB Athletics, Jody Vermilyea, and color commentator, Larry Kimball.
