BLUFFTON, SOUTH CAROLINA – The University of South Carolina Beaufort Interim Director of Athletics, Genia Montford, has announced the promotion of Alison Owen to Assistant Director of Athletics for Student-Athlete Welfare & Community Engagement.
"I am excited about Alison being elevated into this role and the impact it will have on our department. Her dedication to the student‑athlete development process and her passion for wellness, growth, and community engagement make her a natural fit for this position," stated Genia Montford. "Alison understands how intentional, proactive support can shape student‑athletes not only during their competitive careers, but in their long‑term personal and professional growth. This position is vital to who we are and where we're headed, and I'm excited to see how her leadership will continue to strengthen our programs and our department."
Owen has served as an assistant softball coach for the past four seasons with USCB Softball, joining the staff in January 2023. In addition to her coaching responsibilities, she has also served as the academic coordinator for the athletics department. Owen will continue to assist with the softball program as the pitching coach while transitioning into her new administrative role.
"This role is going to provide our Student-Athletes with skills and experiences that will enhance their success at USCB and beyond. In her new role, Owen will lead efforts to promote student-athlete wellness and deepen USCB Athletics' ties to the local community. She will cultivate partnerships that strengthen the department's mission through initiatives focused on wellness, personal development, and engagement, all aimed at creating a positive student-athlete experience. Additionally, Owen will design and oversee programs that enhance the overall well-being of USCB student-athletes.
This new position will play an important role in supporting student-athletes both in competition and in life, while further expanding USCB Athletics' impact throughout the Lowcountry.
