Sand Sharks Excel In Classroom in Fall Semester

BLUFFTON, S.C. - Juggling a hybrid academic setting and competing athletically, USCB student-athletes excelled in the classroom for the fall of 2020, as the athletic department posted a 3.2 cumulative grade-point average (higher than last year).

As an athletic department in the fall, the Sand Sharks had 23 student-athletes with a 4.0, 67 with a 3.5 or higher and 99 with a 3.0 or higher.

"I am extremely proud of how hard our student-athletes worked this semester, and the obstacles that they had to overcome," said Academic Coordinator for Athletics Betsy Walters. "These GPAs are reflective of their hard work and determination."

Of the 11 USCB squads, eight had team GPAs of 3.0 or higher with women's golf leading the way with a 3.63 GPA. The eight teams with a 3.0 or higher GPA were women's golf, men's golf (3.47), men's cross country (3.41), softball (3.39), soccer (3.26), baseball (3.13), men's outdoor track & field (3.09) and men's indoor track & field (3.04).

USCB had an impressive 2019-20 academic year, despite it being shortened due to COVID-19. Sand Shark student-athletes posted a collective 3.1 GPA and had five teams with a 3.1 GPA or higher. Twenty Sand Sharks had a 4.0 spring GPA in 2020, which was improved by three student-athletes for the fall of 2020.
