BLUFFTON, S.C. - Following the winningest season in program history, the USCB women's soccer team unveiled its 2021 fall schedule, which features 10 matches at Fin Land Field.
The season commences on the road versus NCAA DII and Conference Carolinas member Converse. The match in Spartanburg, S.C. is set to begin at 2:30 p.m. on Aug. 17.
The Sand Sharks will then host three straight home contests versus RV (receiving votes) Truett McConnell (Aug. 21 at 11 a.m.), Francis Marion (Aug. 25 at 12 p.m.) and Georgia Southwestern (Aug. 28 at 12 p.m.).
USCB faced TMU in the spring of 2021, and the two clubs played to a 1-1 tie. Madeline Matusik tallied the goal for USCB, while the Sand Sharks dominated the possession in the road matchup.
Francis Marion and Georgia Southwestern are NCAA DII and Peach Belt members, USCB's future DII conference.
The women's soccer team will then hit the road for back-to-back away contests with NAIA members St. Andrews (Sept. 2) and Brenau (Sept. 7). The Sand Sharks are undefeated (4-0) against the Knights, while USCB will face Brenau for the fifth time in program history.
In the longest homestand of the year, the Sand Shark soccer team will host three straight non-conference bouts.
Kicking off the stretch will be on Sept. 18 with a match versus Florida College. USCB is 2-0 against FC and has outscored the Falcons 11-0 all-time. Four days later, Sept. 22, the Sand Sharks will face Brewton-Parker, and to round out the non-conference slate, USCB will entertain RV Georgia Gwinnett. The game with the Grizzlies will mark the fourth straight season the two teams have played each other and the first time at home in back-to-back seasons.
Kicking off the Sun Conference slate will be a road trip to Florida Memorial and St. Thomas on Sept 30 and Oct. 2, respectively.
USCB will return to the friendly confines of Fin Land with two games on Oct. 7 and 9 versus Ave Maria and the reigning back-to-back NAIA champions, Keiser, respectively. Kickoff for both games is set for 11 a.m.
At the mid-point of the league slate, the Sand Sharks will travel to two league opponents - Webber International and Warner. USCB will face off with WIU on Oct. 14, while taking on the WU on Oct. 16. USCB is 4-6-1 all-time against the Warriors (2-1-1 in last four games) and 8-2 all-time against the Royals (3-0 in last three games).
After facing Thomas at home on Oct. 21, USCB will take on No. 5 Southeastern on the road on Oct. 23. The Sand Sharks nearly stunned the Fire twice last season, lost 3-2 in overtime and 1-0 in regulation.
To conclude the regular season and conference schedule, USCB will host nearby and league rival SCAD on Oct. 30. It will also serve as Senior Day for the team, as kickoff is set for 11 a.m.
The Sun Conference Tournament will last from Nov. 6-12, and the higher seeds will host each round. USCB made a run in the tournament last year, as it advanced to the semifinals (tied for the farthest advancement in program history), but it fell to the Fire on the road.
All of the home games will be streamed on the Sun Conference Digital Network. USCB's Sports Information Department has teamed up with Assistant Professor of Communication Studies Dr. Caroline Sawyer to broadcast every home match this year. Her class, Live Sports Production, will run every broadcast with every position being student operated.
