ST SIMONS ISLAND/JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. - Behind three school records being broken, a first-place finish from Dawson Peters and a second-place finish from Kayla Ramsey, the USCB men's and women's golf teams wrapped up play at the Coastal Georgia Fall Invitational on Tuesday.
Men's Day Two Highlights
Three men's golf records were broken on Tuesday, as the 54-hole team score broke the previous school record by one stroke. The Sand Sharks shot even-par 852 in the opening tournament on Monday and Tuesday, which bested the previous team tournament score of 853 at the Sun Conference Tournament during the 2017-18 season.
Peters broke two of the other school records – lowest 54-hole total score by a Sand Shark and lowest-ever, 18-hole round score by a USCB player. Peters' 11-under 202 shattered the school's previous record by seven strokes, while his 7-under 64 score on Tuesday was the lowest 18-hole score by a Sand Shark in program history.
With his dominating performance, Peters easily won his sixth career tournament (most-ever at USCB) as a Sand Shark with four strokes to spare. Jack Maxey of Keiser finished second at 7-under 206.
Jacob Thomas had the second-lowest score on Tuesday for USCB at 1-under 70. He finished in sole possession of 16th place at 4-over 217.
Jonas Demant and Tyler Fox shot identical scores in the final round, as they went 2-over 73 to conclude the tournament. Demant placed tied for 11th, while Fox finished tied for 23rd.
As a team, USCB improved one spot on the team leaderboard, as it finished runner-up. It defeated host-school Coastal Georgia by 12 strokes and Keiser's 'B' team by four strokes.
Women's Day Two Highlights
Ramsey was stellar on the women's side, as she was the only player in the field to shoot under par in the second round of the tournament. She posted a 1-under 70 outing, which was eight strokes better than Monday's performance. She finished in a tie for second place at 4-over 148 with Valentina Espinosa of Southeastern.
Cassie Tasney fell three spots on the individual leaderboard, but she improved by one stroke with a 4–over 76 performance on Tuesday. Overall, she finished tied for seventh at 9–over 153 to open her collegiate career.
Ashleigh Mead and Alejandra Rodriguez again finished near one another, as Mead edged her teammate by just one stroke.
