MELBOURNE, Fla. - Three Sand Sharks - Jacob Thomas (9th), Dawson Peters (tied for 10th) and Tyler Fox (tied for 10th) - found themselves inside the top after 18 holes of play on Sunday, while the USCB men's golf team is tied for fifth at 13-over 301 at the Panther Invitational.

Day One Highlights

Thomas led the Sand Shark squad with a strong 1-over 73 round score. He started on hole 10, and he went 1-over 37 from holes 10 to 18, where he collected eight pars in that stretch. From holes one to nine, the senior collected three birdies en route to inking even-par 36.

Peters and Fox shot identical 2-over 74 scores. Peters had a steadier performance, where he etched 12 pars and two birdies. Fox penciled five total birdies, most on the team on the opening day, to go along with seven pars. Peters and Fox are currently tied with seven other golfers at tied for 10th.

Jonas Demant shot an 8-over 80, as he collected a pair of birdies (came on holes 11 and 17). The sophomore is currently tied for 48th.

Turner Wegener rounded out the five scores for USCB at tied for 77th. 

As a team, USCB is tied for fifth with Eastern Florida state at 13-over 301.

NCAA DII ranked No. 1 Barry leads the 15-team field at even-par 288. NAIA No. 1 Keiser is tied for second at 10-over 298 with NCAA DII No. 24 Lynn.

Barry has three golfers at the top of the leaderboard. NCAA DII No. 2 A.J. Ewart and No. 39 Felipe Alvarez are tied at 2-under 70, while No. 31 Nicolas Quintero posted a 1-under 71. 

What's Next?

The second day of the three-day tournament will be a staggered start again on Monday. USCB will be paired with Florida Tech and Nova Southeastern, and the Sand Sharks will begin on hole 1 in the second round. USCB will tee off at 7:39 a.m.
