RESULTS
GULF SHORES, Ala. - To conclude the 2021-22 track and field season, three Sand Sharks - Shamar Deacon, Maisonne Jones and Kadari Mitchell - competed in four events at the 2022 NAIA Outdoor Track and Field Nationals from May 25-27 at the Mikey Miller Blackwell Stadium in Gulf Shores.
Two Sand Sharks posted top-10 finishes at the postseason meet. Headlining those finishes was Jones, who finished third in the long jump. Deacon finished 10th in the 400m to round out the top-10 finishes for USCB.
Wednesday Highlights
Mitchell was the lone Sand Shark to compete on Wednesday. He ran in the men's 200m, and he clocked a 21.96, which slotted him 21st nationally.
Thursday Highlights
Competing in back-to-back days, Mitchell raced in the 100m, and he posted a respectable time of 10.80. He finished in 30th place nationally.
In his lone event at the NAIA National Championships, Deacon raced in the men's 400m. He just missed on qualifying for the finals of the event, as he placed 10th out of 27 sprinters. He posted a 48.02 in his final race of the 2021-22 season.
Friday Highlights
Headlining the finishes for the Sand Sharks at the national tournament was Jones' performance in the women's long jump. The jumper finished third nationally en route to earning All American honors in the event. She posted a jump of 5.92m on her first of six jumps, which placed her third out of 25 athletes. The leap also shattered her previous personal best by 0.11m.
