COLUMBIA, S.C. - Senior Maisonne Jones and sophomore Jacob Mitchell posted stellar marks for USCB track and field on Saturday at the South Carolina Invitational. Jones hit a NAIA A standard and nearly broke a school record in the women's long jump, while Mitchell finished second in the men's 5k. 
Field Highlights
Jones posted a stellar distance in the women's long jump invite, as the senior made a leap of 5.71m. That mark placed her in seventh in the highly-talented field and, most importantly, gave her a NAIA A Standard for the Indoor National Championships. Her jump was also just 0.04m off from the school record, which she set nearly two years ago. 
Track Highlights
The Sand Sharks sent out a slew of runners in the men's 200m. Steven Nesbitt led the five Sand Sharks in the event with a 79th place finish and a mark of 24.14. Augustis Frasier finished right behind him in 80th with a time of 24.17. 
In the women's 400m, LeeAisha Ford paced USCB. She slotted in 70th place with a time of 1:08.02. Riley Edwards finished five spots back at 1:09.47. 
The second headline of the day was Mitchell turning heads in the men's 5k. The sophomore posted a second-place finish out of 20 runners. He finished the event with a strong mark of 15:44.19. Travis Patten also ran and earned a 17:16.33.
On the women's side of the 5k, Cydney Stevenson represented the Sand Sharks, as she finished in 11th place. She earned a time of 20:44.91. 
What's Next?
The Sand Sharks will rest and prepare for their final regular season meet of the indoor season - the JDL DMR Invitational. The meet will be two days in length and runs from Feb. 17-18 in Winston-Salem, N.C.
