Baseball Drops Game One of Friday's Doubleheader; Game Two Suspended Due to Weather

HARDEEVILLE, S.C. - After falling in game one of Friday's doubleheader with the Grizzlies, 11-5, USCB and Georgia Gwinnett had to suspend game two's action in the top of the fourth inning due to lightning and weather in the Lowcountry. The second game was stopped with one out and USCB leading by three, 3-0.

Brandon Blume (L, 2-5), 3.1 IP, 12 H, 10 ER, 3 SO

How it Happened - Game One

After getting the first out on the first pitch of the game, the Grizzlies scored four runs thanks to two run-scoring hits and two Sand Shark miscues.

USCB cut the lead in half in the bottom of the first following an RBI single from Anderson, in which two runs scored.

Georgia Gwinnett broke the game open in the fourth, scoring five runs, making it a 10-3 game.

Another run scored in the fifth for GGC, but the Sand Sharks battled, pushing two runs across the board thanks to Ambrose's two-RBI single to right.

USCB was kept scoreless through the final two innings, and the Grizzlies took game one, 11-5.

Inside the Box Score - Game Two

Hunter McKown: 1-for-1, RBI

Jake Tanner: 1-for-1, 2 RBI

Scott Matthews: 3.1 IP, 2 H, 6 SO

How it Happened - Game Two

USCB nearly batted around in the second inning, tallying three runs for starter Matthews. McKown singled past the third baseman for the first run, and Tanner followed with a scorching line drive past the pitcher to make it 3-0.

Matthews was dealing through three-plus innings, striking out six and only allowing two hits before a lightning delay caused the game to be called.

The game was suspended in the top of the fourth with one out. No runners were on base, and GGC's Brett Dingess was up to bat for the Grizzlies. The contest will be resumed on Saturday as well as game three of the series with GGC.
