BLUFFTON — As the inaugural season inches closer, USCB Men's and Women's Basketball coaches, Ron Fudala and Sharon Versyp, have announced their respective coaching staffs for the 2023-24 season.
Joining Fudala on the sidelines is Luke Dyer, a 2020 graduate of West Liberty University in West Liberty, West Virginia.
"Luke brings a wealth of knowledge to our program," Fudala said, "He had a stellar playing career at West Liberty and will be a tremendous mentor to our players. He is a 24/7 worker, and will help grow our player's games to new heights."
The Clarksburg native spent five season at WL, helping the Hilltoppers post a 127-22 record during his tenure. He was member of four Mountain East Regular Season Championship teams, along with two MEC tournament titles, earning a trip to the Elite Eight in 2021. He ranks second all-time in NCAA history with a 5.9 assist/turnover ratio while averaging 4.9 points, 3.8 assists, 3.0 rebounds and 23.5 minutes per game.
He earned a Bachelor's in Business Management in 2020 and then a Master's in Business Administration in 2022, both from West Liberty.
"Coach Dyer will be a great ambassador in our community and I could not be more excited for our players to have him as a coach," said Fudala.
Brady Grogan will be next to Versyp on the bench as well as a couple of Beaufort County locals, Jamese Franklin and Torri McCullough.
Grogan comes to the Lowcountry from Heidelberg University where he served on the women's basketball staff during the 2022-23 season. Prior to his time at Heidelberg, he spent three seasons as an assistant at Clark Sate and was the intern head coach during the 2020-21 campaign.
"I am very excited to bring Brady on staff," Versyp said. "He not only brings experience and basketball knowledge, but has a very good background in recruiting that'll help us bring in a number of well-rounded student-athletes."
The Cincinnati native spent time on Megan Duffy's staff at Miami (Ohio) while a student; working primarily with scouting and helping with the practice squad. He graduated in 2020 with a Bachelor's in Sports Management.
Franklin joins USCB after spending the last six seasons at SCISA powerhouse Hilton Head Christian Academy. During her tenure with HHCA, she helped guide the Eagles to five consecutive SCISA State Championships from 2019-23.
"Jamese brings great energy and knows the Lowcountry quite well, which will help in recruiting contacts. She brings a winning mentality after being very successful at the high school level."
A graduate of Hilton Head High School in 2012, she went on to play collegiately at Southern Wesleyan, but injuries derailed her career after two seasons. She returned home to Hilton Head and immediately began coaching at Hilton Head Middle.
Rounding out Versyp's staff is McCullough, another Lowcountry native, by way of Marietta, Georgia. He has spent the better part of two decades in Beaufort where has worked and coached at the high school level.
"Torri brings great relationships and basketball knowledge to our staff. He knows the Lowcountry as well as the Metro-Atlanta area so well, which gives us a great range for recruiting. His energy, passion and personality work tremendously with young people."
