Sand Sharks tied for 14th after first two rounds of Mizuno Intercollegiate

GAINESVILLE -- Nikolai Holme carded a team-best two-over score, highlighted by a -1 second 18 as USCB Men's Golf concluded the first two rounds of the UNG Mizuno Intercollegiate tied at 14th with West Florida after shooting 16-over Monday afternoon at the Chattahoochee Golf Club in Gainesville.

"It was great to get Nikolai (Holme) and Ellis (Bright) their first collegiate rounds in such a strong event," said coach Cory Cottrell. "Looking to build on the starting point for the rest of the year."

Freshman Ellis Bright led the way in the first round for the Sand Sharks posting a +1 73. He highlighted the round with birdies on holes No. 5, 12 and 16, but was plagued by a bogey on the final hole of his round to finish one-over. The Trowbridge, England native followed that round up with a 77 second round and finished +6 after two.

Christofer Hammar began his round with a birdie on number 15, and after falling back to even on the next hole he would record pars next seven holes before he birdied six to go one-under. He would double-bogied seven and then bogey 11 finish his first round +2. The Stockholm native opened his second round with a double on 15 and battled through a tough front nine, shooting over par on four holes. After making the turn he shot even par to end his afternoon.

Holme's first round started off with a par, but after a quadruple-bogey on 18 he was four-over after just two holes. However, the Jessheim, Norway native was able to write the ship as he birdied four holes over the course of his first collegiate round. He maintained the pace in the second round notching a birdie on his first hole and adding three more along the way to finish one-under.

Sophomore's Jan Ciric and Eric Nord battled through the first round but finished with a respectable +3 and +6. In the second round Ciric was even through the first 16 holes before carding bogies on a eight and nine. He'd finish his round with pars to finish two-over. Nord bettered his first round by mkaing the biggest jump, moving from six-over in his first round to +1 in his second.
