Men's Cross Country Places Ninth at Chanticleer Challenge

CONWAY, SOUTH CAROLINA – The University of South Carolina Beaufort (USCB) men's cross country team competed in the Chanticleer Challenge on Friday evening, hosted by NCAA Division I Coastal Carolina University. The Sand Sharks placed ninth overall in a mixed-division field that included Division I programs.

Richmond claimed the team title, followed by host Coastal Carolina in second place.

Leading the way for USCB was Braxton Talley, who finished 54th overall with a time of 27:33.46 in the 8K his first collegiate race at that distance.

Benton Cantrell was the second Sand Shark to cross the line, placing 66th with a time of 28:44.75 in his first 8K of the season and second collegiate meet overall.

Finishing 69th and third for the Sand Sharks was Beckett Jones, who set a new personal best with a time of 29:28.64, passing his previous mark of 30:22.30.

USCB had two back-to-back finishers to round out the scoring. Ryan Kurz placed 73rd overall, recording a personal-best time of 29:57.90. He was followed by Rickson Figueroa, who crossed the line with a time of 30:56.44.

The Sand Sharks return to competition next week at the Bobcat Invitational, hosted by Georgia College in Milledgeville, Georgia., on Thursday, Sept. 26.
