SALISBURY, NORTH CAROLINA – The University of South Carolina Beaufort women's track and field team competed in North Carolina at the Quanera Hayes Blue Bear Invite for the second outdoor meet of the season on Saturday.
The Sand Sharks were highlighted by a handful of top-five finishes, including a strong showing in the pole vault with the top two finishers. Sydney Lee won the event, while Kasey Thompson finished second. Lee cleared 2.95m, followed by Thompson at 2.65m.
Dionna Rivers led the Sand Sharks in the 100m, placing 15th overall with a time of 12.93. In the 200m, Melanie Simmons paced the team with a 15th-place finish in 26.59.
Chandler Riley and Avrie Farrington led the way in the 1500m, both placing inside the top 10. Riley finished seventh overall with a time of 5:18.95, followed by Farrington in eighth at 5:27.44.
In the field events, Sophia Stalford led the discus throw with a mark of 32.08m. Patton Casto paced the Sand Sharks in the javelin with a seventh-place finish and a throw of 23.92m.
Victoria Ingram recorded two top-five finishes at the meet, placing fourth in the long jump with a mark of 5.15m and third in the triple jump with a distance of 10.52m.
The Sand Sharks' 4x100m relay team placed fifth overall with a time of 50.52. The team consisted of Melanie Simmons, Milani Edwards, Dionna Rivers, and Zoe Turner.
