FT MYERS, FL—The University of South Carolina Beaufort fell today (May 4) to the Embry Riddle Eagles in the second round of the Sun Conference Baseball Tournament, with a final score of 11-6.
The Eagles were the first to get on the scoreboard, off a double down the right field line in the second, followed by an RBI single to centerfield. But the Eagles were shut down the rest of the inning at starting pitcher
Jorge Olmo picked off two runners at first base, and struck out the fifth batter, to end the half inning down by one.
The Sand Sharks were quick to answer back with three runs of their own when
Zach Rossetti reached on a single and advanced to third on a single by
Jeremy Webb. Webb advanced to second and Rossetti scored when
Jon Schmidt singled through the right side.
Spencer Jackson then doubled down the left field line to bring around Webb and Schmidt to put the Sand Sharks on top 3-1.
The Eagles picked up five more runs in the third and three in the fourth, and never looked back. The Sand Sharks did add one more run in the bottom of the third, and two more in the eighth, but couldn't get a rally going to get them back in the game.
This was USCB's first season, and first appearance in the post season, hopefully this is a sign of great things to come for the young Sand Shark program.
