HARDEEVILLE, SC-The USCB baseball team got back on the winning track with a come from behind 11-4 victory over Savannah State in a non league game played Wednesday at the Richard Gray Baseball Complex. The win gives the Sand Sharks a 7-3 record going into this week-end's Sun Conference series against rival Savannah College of Art and Design.
The visiting Tigers jumped on top early scoring runs in both the first and second innings off USCB starter
Jorge Olmo and another run in the fifth to give Savannah State a 3-0 lead. USCB countered with their first run in 19 innings in their half of the fifth as Larry Perry,
David O'Neil and
RJ Neal had consecutive singles to cut the Tiger deficit to 3-1
Savannah State scored their fourth and final run in the six when Emory Barkley drove home Dychal Bowles for a 4-1 lead. The visitor's starting pitcher, Kevin Heriihy had scattered seven hits through the first six innings and seemed to be in control when the Sand Shark bats came alive in the seventh.
Clay Bonds and Perry started the inning with back to back doubles to score the first run of the inning. After an O'Neil sacrifice, Herilihy was replaced on the mound by Jason Wynn. Neal and
Zach Rossetti greeted the reliever with singles.
Spencer Jackson's double brought home another run.
Brandon Cooksey was hit by a pitch to again load the bases. Pinch hitter Brandon Collins drew a walk to produce another run.
Jeremy Webb's fielder's choice scored Jackson. Bond's came up for the second time in the inning and grounded out to the pitcher that scored another run. Perry than singled to drive in the final two runs of the frame as USCB sent ten batters to the plate producing eight runs on six hits.
The Sand Sharks scored two insurance runs in the eighth inning as O'Neil walked and Neal singled. Rossetti;s single brought home O'Neil. Neal later scored on a ground ball double play to end the scoring for the day.
The USCB pitching staff saw plenty of action as seven Sand Sharks hurlers saw action. Following Olmo,

Coleman Farrell,
Ryan Philpott,
Colton Rudd, Andres Castro and
Ryan Kroko all pitched at least an inning giving up only two earned runs. Rudd was the winning pitcher.
Neal led a fifteen hit Sand Shark attack with four singles. Perry had another three hits while O'Neil and Rossetti contributed two hits apiece.
USCB now travel across the Savannah River to play an important Sun Conference week-end series against SCAD. The first game will be Friday at 5:00 followed by a Saturday doubleheader starting at 11:00 a.m. All games will be played at Grayson Stadium in Savannah.
