USCB SWEEPS SOUTHEASTERN

BRANDON COLLINS HAS SEVEN RBI'S AND TWO HOME RUNS ON SATURDAY
HARDEEVILLE, SC-The Sand Shark baseball team swept a doubleheader Saturday at the Richard Gray Baseball Complex against Southeastern in Sun Conference games by scores of 5-4 and 11-3 and took all three games in this week-ends three game series. The wins give the Sand Sharks a 24-8 overall record and they stand 9-5 in the Sun Conference.

Brandon Collins continued his hot bat for USCB, producing game winning hits in all three of the series games. With USCB down 2-0 in the bottom of the fifth frame in game one, Collins doubled home two runs to put the Sand Sharks on top 4-2. Blake Sanders had led off the inning with a double followed by a Spencer Jackson single. Larry Perry then reached on an error before David O'Neil singled home Jackson for USCB's second run that tied the score at 2-2 setting the table for the Collins double.
 
The Fire from Southeastern pulled to within one run in the top of the sixth frame, but TJ Kemp doubled to open the Sand Shark half of the inning and later scored on Jackson's single.
 
Spencer Cromer was the starting and winning pitcher for USCB. Cromer went six innings scattering nine hits and giving up only one earned run. Andres Castro pitched the final frame for the Sand Sharks and recorded the save.
 
The Sand Sharks began game two wanting to leave nothing to chance as they scored three quick runs in the bottom of the first as Perry and O'Neil singled to start the frame. Collins then blasted his first of two home runs of the game to give USCB a quick 3-0 lead.
 
USCB scored two more in the second as a walk to Jackson and base hits by Sanders and O'Neil set the table for Collins as he produced another rbi single. The Sand Sharks added their sixth run in the fourth as Gabe Torres singled and scored on Mitch Foster's sacrifice fly.
 
Collins hammered his second home run of the game in the sixth with a two run shot to left center which also scored Perry who had singled earlier in the frame.
 
Sanders had three of the fourteen USCB hits in the game as he also produced three runs batted in. O'Neil, Collins, and Torres each had a pair of hits for the Sand Sharks.
 
Sand Shark hurler Ryan Philpott went six strong innings for the Sand Sharks limiting Southeastern to just four hits over the first six and a third innings. The Fire scored their three runs in the seventh. Philpott gave way to Andrew Barrineau who finished up the frame. Ryan Kroko came on to pitch a perfect final two innings for the Sand Sharks.
 
USCB will travel to Brewton Parker on Tuesday for a 6:00 game before heading to the Miami area for another important three game Sun Conference series against Florida Memorial next week-end.
