HARDEEVILLE, SC-USCB rode the coattails of a masterful pitching performance by Spencer Cromer to win game one 1-0 in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader against Edward Waters and then went on to complete the three game series sweep by a score of 16-6 in game two. The wins give the Sand Sharks their second 30 win season in only their second season of existence. They stand at 30-10 over-all and are firmly in second place in the Sun Conference at 14-6.
Cromer was matched in a scoreless pitcher's duel with the Tiger's Bryan Joseph's through six innings before the Sand Sharks scored the only run of the game.
Spencer Jackson singled then went to third as
David O'Neil's sacrifice bunt was thrown into center field by Joseph attempting as he attempted to get Jackson. Brandon Collins then singled to score Jackson for the game's only run.
Cromer went the entire seven innings allowing just three hits while striking out seven Tigers. The victory runs his record to 5-2 on the season.
Game two was in some ways a carbon copy of Friday's opening series game as the Sand Sharks exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the seventh. USCB had 18 hits in game two including three by catcher
Mitch Foster and a pair each by
RJ Neal and Collins.
Ryan Philpott picked up the win for the Sand Sharks with relief help from
Ryan Kroko.
The Sand Sharks will remain at home for a doubleheader on Wednesday against Voorhees College before hosting Northwood in another important three game series next week-end. Game time for Wednesday's doubleheader is 2:00 at the Richard Gray Baseball Complex in Hardeeville.
