HARDEEVILLE, SC- The Sand Shark baseball team rode a complete game seven hit pitching performance by
Adam Miller and some stellar defense as USCB won their first Sun Conference league game on Friday defeating Ave Maria 5-0 at the Richard Gray Baseball Complex in Hardeeville. With the win, the Sand Sharks run their over-all record to 7-1.
Miller overcame a shaky first inning as the visiting Ave Maria team loaded the bases before Miller struck out the final two hitters of the frame to work himself out of further trouble.
USCB put two runs on the board in the bottom of the first inning as Larry Perry reached on a walk and advanced to second when Gabe Torres made it to first on a visitors error. Walks to
Conald Mansfield and
David O'Neil forced in the games first run and a sacrifice fly by
Ty Main scored the second run for the Sand Sharks. USCB added another run an inning later as DeShontay Berry walked and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly to right field by Torres.
The Sand Sharks scored their final two runs in the sixth frame as Spencer Jackson singled into center field driving in both Berry and
Denzel Campbell.
As good as Miller was on the mound, the USCB defense was equal to the task aiding the cause with spectacular plays that continually frustrated the Ave Maria hitters.
The two teams will again square off on Saturday at noon as USCB and Ave Maria will play a pair of nine inning games at the Richard Gray Baseball Complex.
