USCB BASEBALL WINS GAME OPENER AT CLAFLIN

The 17th ranked Sand Shark baseball team started the season on a good note defeating Claflin University 9-3 on the road in Orangeburg, SC on Tuesday.  Junior Mike Heesch started the game for USCB.  The transfer from the University of Illinois-Chicago pitched 6 solid innings, striking out eight and walking two, to pick up the win.  Junior lefty Colton Rudd finished the game on the mound, pitching 3 innings, striking out three and walking only one. One of the keys for the victory was the Sand Shark offense which did a tremendous job of situational hitting.  For the Sand Sharks on offense, Spencer Jackson had 3 hits with 1 RBI, Gabe Torres and Ty Main each had 2 hits and 1 RBI, Brett Martin had to 2 hits and 2 RBI. Junior David O'Neil played well in the opener coming through with a key hit and played very well defensively.

 

For Coach Sofield and the Sand Sharks, it is now time for the home opener on Wednesday as they take on 24th ranked Brewton-Parker College from Mount Vernon, GA. First pitch is set for 2:00 PM at Richard Gray Park in Hardeeville, SC.   The Barons started the season with a double header sweep of Edward Waters College.
