SAND SHARK BASEBALL TEAM LOSES HOME OPENER

DAVID O'NEIL LED THE SAND SHARKS WITH A SINGLE AND DOUBLE IN WEDNESDAY'S LOSS TO BREWTON PARKER
HARDEEVILLE, SC-The USCB baseball team lost their 2011 home opener losing to Brewton Parker 13-1 on Wednesday afternoon in a non league game played at the Richard Gray Baseball Complex in Hardeeville. With the loss, the Sand Sharks drop to 1-1 on the young season.

The visiting Barons jumped on USCB starter Adam Miller for three runs in the first inning. After retiring the first two hitters of the game, Miller allowed four hits and a base on balls to the next five batters for the three runs as Jacob Evers, Michael Pleau, and Randall Shepard each delivered rbi scoring hits.
Brewton Parker batted around in the fourth frame scoring another three runs with Joshua Palmer delivering the key blow, a two run double.

The Sand Sharks rallied in their half of the fourth inning as David O'Neil and Spencer Jackson led off the frame with back to back singles. O'Neil scored the lone USCB run of the game on a sacrifice fly to center field by catcher Brett Martin. The Sand Sharks later loaded the bases in the fourth, but a strike-out by Brewton Parker reliever Ricky Rogers ended the inning.

The visitors scored four more runs in the seventh frame and three in the ninth against a number of Sand Shark relievers.

Rogers was the winning pitcher for the visiting Barons, while Miller took the loss for the Sand Sharks.
O'Neil and Daniel Wass each had a pair of hits for USCB.

The Sand Sharks will play a pair of doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday in a four game set against Fisher College from Boston, MA. Each twin bill will start at noon and will be played at the Richard Gray Baseball Complex in Hardeeville.
