Hardeeville, SC-The Sand Sharks were back at home to play Southern Wesleyan University on Tuesday. USCB came into the game trying to break a three game losing streak from the previous weekend against Webber International University. The Sand Sharks fell behind, 3-0, through four innings before scoring four runs in the fifth to take the lead 4-3. SWU came right back on the top half of the sixth inning to score a run and tie the game at four runs.
The next three innings was led by strong pitching performances and solid defense as both teams went scoreless to take the game into extra innings. In the top half of the 10th inning SWU was able to hit three straight singles to to take a 5-4 lead. The Sand Sharks came up to the plate and after two, quick outs,
Paul Cheeks drew a walk and
Keifer Youmans hit a double for runners at second and third. It looked as if USCB was going to get a run across but a ground out to the second-basemen ended the game.
Southern Wesleyan University used six pitchers in the game to keep the potent Sand Sharks offense off-balance at the plate.
David O'Neil led the team at the plate going 2-for-4 with two RBI's and one run scored.
Weldon Smith moves to 1-1 after the loss in today's game.
The Sand Sharks and Southern Wesleyan Warriors will meet, again, tomorrow, March 2nd at 3:00 pm at Richard Gray Park in Hardeeville, SC. USCB is now 11-5 on the year and 3-3 in the Sun Conference.
