Hardeeville, SC-The USCB baseball team hosted Savannah College of Art and Design for a three-game, Sun Conference, Series at Richard Gray Stadium in Hardeeville, SC on Friday and Saturday. The Sand Sharks came out strong in the first game and won 11-3 over the visiting Bees. Dexter Price had another strong performance on the mound in throwing seven innings, striking out five batters, and giving up three runs in the game. With the win Price moves to 5-2 on the season and increased his season strike-out total to 42 with a 2.34 ERA for USCB. Price got great support from his offense, as well, as the team scored their 11 runs on 11 hits.
David O'Neil and
RJ Neal had three hits apiece for the Sand Sharks. O'Neil also scored three runs in the game while Neal had two RBI's and scored one run, as well. Gabe Torres continued to impress in going 2-for-4 on the day, scoring two runs, and driving in two more for the Sand Sharks.
Colton Rudd pitched the final two innings of relief for USCB and did not give up a run and dropped his ERA, to a team leading, 2.22 on the season.
On Saturday USCB could not get the same offensive performance and dropped both games of the double-header. In the first game USCB finished with nine hits, but were unable to manufacture runs in the 5-1 loss.
Ty Main,
David O'Neil, Adam Gendall, and Kiefer Youmans had two hits, each, for the Sand Sharks in the game.
Michael Heesch dropped to 4-4 on the season in throwing 6.2 innings and giving up three earned runs to the Bees.
Alexander Graham pitched the 2.1 scoreless innings of relief for the Sand Sharks.
In Game 3 USCB scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning to take the early lead, but it wasn't enough as SCAD won the game 6-3. The Sand Shark defense committed three errors on the day as
Adam Miller pitched six innings and gave up three earned runs. The three errors led to the three additional runs being scored by SCAD. Miller gave up four hits in the loss and now drops to 2-5 on the season. At the plate, USCB had three hits, two by
RJ Neal, and the other by
David O'Neil, who scored two of the three runs, as well.
The Sand Sharks move to 22-17 on the season and 10-14 in Sun Conference play. USCB will head to Southern Wesleyan University for a double-header on Tuesday, before coming home to host, #4, Brewton Parker on Wednesday. The Sand Sharks will be looking to avenge an early season loss to BPC in the rematch. The first pitch is slated for 4:00 pm at Richard Gray Stadium and will be streamed at
