Hardeeville, SC-The USCB baseball team concluded their regular season on Tuesday as they hosted the Savannah State Tigers in a non-conference contest. Savannah State was able to jump out to an early lead, scoring five runs in the first inning, and held the lead through the remainder of the game for the 7-5 win.
The Sand Sharks were able to outhit the visitors 14-12, but was not able to get timely hits in leaving 14 runners on base throughout the game.
Keifer Youmans led the offense with three hits and two runs scored, while Spencer Jackson, Larry Perry,
Brett Martin, and
Weldon Smith had two hits each.
After a tough first inning, giving up five runs,
Stephen Richards settle down to throw three more innings of scoreless baseball. Richards drops to 5-2 on the season for USCB. Andres Castro allowed three hits in striking out four batter through three scoreless innings of relief for the Sand Sharks.
Alexander Graham entered the game in the eighth inning and allowed two runs on three hits in two complete innings of work.
USCB finishes the regular season with a 27-19 record. They will be travelling to play in the Sun Conference Tournament at City of Palms Park in Ft. Myers, FL beginning Tuesday, May 3rd. The Sand Sharks will open tournament play against #1 NAIA Ranked Embry-Riddle University at 11:00 am. The game can be viewed life on the Sun Conference website,
