Fort Myers, FL-The USCB baseball game took to the field in Sun Conference tournament play verse Webber International University. The win, or go home game, was a big one for the Sand Sharks as WIU had swept all three games from USCB earlier in the season. USCB came out strong and won the game 8-3 to advance, for the first time in Sun Conference tournament play. The win gives Coach Rick Soffield, and the USCB Baseball Team, their 100th overall win, an impressive feat in three years of competition. USCB will play the loser of St. Thomas and SCAD, who play at 7:00 pm tonight.
Adam Miller threw nine innings of excellent baseball which was reminiscent of his 2010 form. Miller, now 5-5, threw 95 pitches and gave up two earned runs for the Sand Sharks. The offense returned, as well, for the Sand Sharks as they pounded out 11 hits in the game. Spencer Jackson and
Erik Armstrong each had three hits on the day for USCB. Armstrong added two RBI's and a run scored off of his homerun, third of season, in the eighth inning.
USCB was able to jump out to an early lead in going up 3-0 in the top of the 1st inning. The Sand Sharks added a another run in the home half of the fourth inning to go up 4-0 on WIU . Miller faced a little trouble in the bottom of the fifth as WIU scored three runs in their half of the inning to make the score 4-3. USCB then added four insurance runs in the top half of the eight to put the game out of reach and let Miller relax on the mound to finish out his stellar performance. Of Miller's 95 pitches, 69 went for strikes and he relied on a strong USCB defense to shut-down Webber International University.
Since USCB started baseball in the 2009 season the Sand Sharks have made the Sun Conference Tournament each year, averaged 33 wins, and made the NAIA National Tournament in the 2010 season. The 100
th win in school history also is the first post-season win in school history.
Adam Miller, the heart-and-soul, of the 2010 pitching staff for USCB impressed at a perfect time for the Sand Sharks as his name will go down as the winner of the 100
th game in school history. The Sand Sharks will go for #101 tomorrow at 3:00 pm from City of Palms Park in Fort Myers, FL at 3:00 pm. You can listen, get live stats, and chat about the game live by going to
