BABSON PARK, Fla. — Five University of South Carolina Beaufort stars helped the North team defeat its South counterparts 4-0 in the annual Sun Conference All-Star Baseball Game on Saturday at Webber International University.
Left fielder Ty Main (Middletown, Md.) and left-hander Adam Miller (Savannah, Ga.) both made their way into the starting lineup, and both played key roles.
Hitting in the leadoff spot, Main went 2-for-3 with an RBI and scored a run. His single in the four-run third inning drove home the first run of the game, and he later scored the third run of the inning.
Miller was the first of seven pitchers who combined on the six-hit shutout for the North. He worked two scoreless innings, allowing one hits and hitting a batter. He struck out two.
Fellow Sand Sharks left-hander Michael Heesch (Crystal Lake, Ill.) also chipped in for the shutout, pitching a scoreless eighth. He struck out two and worked around a one-out single by stranding the runner at third.
Second baseman Gabe Torres (Safety Harbor, Fla.) and third baseman David O'Neil (Ludlow, Vt.) also got into the game. Torres went 1-for-2 and handled all four of his chances on defense, and O'Neil was 0-for-1 with a walk and one assist.
