Back-to-back HRs by Weldon Smith and Ty Main highlight big offensive outburst

Box Score

HARDEEVILLE – Players and coaches talk about great team efforts so often that the phrase has become a cliché, but there's no other way to describe the University of South Carolina Beaufort baseball team's 11-6 win over Mid-Continent (Ky.) on Saturday at Richard Gray Sports Complex.

Eight different pitchers took the mound and 10 different players had hits for the Sand Sharks, who finished off a four-game sweep of the Cougars to improve to 5-1.

For the second day in a row, the Sand Sharks got off to a quick start, this time scoring 10 runs in the first four innings for a 10-1 lead. They scored four in the first on RBI doubles by Dylan Nasiatka and Gabe Torres and a two-run single by R.J. Neal. Erik Armstrong had an RBI double, and Conald Mansfield added a run-scoring single in the second, and Weldon Smith and Ty Main hit back-to-back home runs in the third.

Freshman Caleb Daniels (1-0) made his first collegiate start in his Sand Sharks debut and earned the win with two scoreless innings. Stephen Richards, Matthew Graney, Junior Delatorre and Alex Graham each worked a scoreless inning in relief.

Notes: Nasiatka, whose five hits Friday tied a school record, has hits in his last six at-bats. … Armstrong's six doubles lead the Sun Conference and are on pace to shatter Spencer Jackson's single-season school record of 22. … Neal had three RBIs, giving him 112 in his career, five shy of Jackson's all-time school record. … Graham has worked 6 2-3 innings over three appearances this season without allowing a hit or a run. … Seven USCB players made their season debuts Saturday, including outfielder Kyle Thompson, who went 2-for-2. … USCB travels to St. Augustine, Fla., on Wednesday to face NCAA Division II Flagler College before returning home for a three-game series against Milligan (Tenn.) next weekend.
