HARDEEVILLE, S.C. – It took the University of South Carolina Beaufort baseball team 13 innings to put a run on the scoreboard in Friday's series opener with Florida Memorial, but the Sand Sharks didn't have any trouble scoring Saturday.

The Sand Sharks blasted the Lions 14-0 and 11-1 in a doubleheader at Richard Gray Sports Complex to finish a three-game sweep and take over first place in the Sun Conference. USCB (20-6, 8-1 Sun Conference) is off to its best overall start and its best start to conference play in the program's four-year history.

The notion of another pitchers' duel like USCB's 1-0 win in the opener was gone by the third inning of Saturday's first game, when the Sand Sharks scored 10 unearned runs against starter Royfe Rodriguez (2-3). Senior RJ Neal delivered a two-run single in the inning, giving him the school's all-time lead with 119 RBIs. Neal added another RBI in the four-run fourth inning.

That was plenty of support for left-hander Adam Miller (4-2), who scattered eight hits and struck out three in a seven-inning complete game.

USCB's bats kept ringing in the second game. The Sand Sharks scored six runs in the first two innings before allowing the Lions (12-18-1, 4-8) to score their only run of the series in the fourth. USCB added three in the fifth and ended the game early on Erik Armstrong's two-run double in the seventh.

Armstrong and Conald Mansfield each had three RBIs for USCB.

Starter Kyle McCullough threw two scoreless innings before giving way to Miles Galvin (4-0), who earned the win with four innings of one-run ball. Alex Graham pitched a scoreless seventh.

The Sand Sharks, who have a half-game lead over Embry-Riddle in the conference standings, travel to Brewton-Parker for a non-conference game Tuesday then go to SCAD Savannah for a three-game series at Grayson Stadium starting Friday.
